Licensing guidelines on Product Use

All licensed character cake pans, candy molds, cookie cutters, party supplies and other products on this web site are for consumer home use only. Stores and bakeries cannot make cakes, cookies, or candies from licensed products and sell them to consumers. These "mold making items" are strictly prohibited for any type of commercial use since the licensor has neither the method to control the quality of the character nor the ability to earn royalties on sales of the finished product. This applies to baked and craft type products.

Free hand or copied character designs cannot be drawn or iced on top of the cake, cupcake, or cookies and sold for any type of commercial purpose. Once again, the licensor cannot control the quality and is not earning a royalty on the product created around their character. Additionally licensed pans cannot be rented to consumers by stores since the licensor is not earning a royalty from the transaction.

Generally creating any type of image that looks like a licensed character that is sold for commercial purposes is prohibited unless there is a specific licensing agreement with the licensor for that product and royalties are paid each time the product is sold.

It is a violation of federal copyright law for a bakery to decorate any product they make with an identical copy or close likeness of copyrighted movie, TV Cartoon, or comic book character without written permission of the copyright owner(s). To do so can cost the bakery and the customer a great deal of money for damages under the law.

There are many creative ways to decorate/make cakes & candies for any person or occasion. When only a specific character will do, the are plenty of officially licensed Novelties and Cake Toppers that individuals and bakeries can use. The officially licensed items ensure that neither the bakery nor the customer is violating copyright laws.

We have customers that come into our store all the time asking if we can print a copy of a copyrighted photograph or image onto edible paper. We explain that we cannot duplicate these licensed characters unless they have written permission from the owner. As an alternative we work very hard to keep licensed Novelties and Cake Toppers and Edible Icing Decorations in stock at all times. The copyright laws protect the creator's work prohibiting anyone else from using or profiting from that creation without the permission of the owner. If a product carries the © or ® symbol it is someone else's property and using it without permission is illegal.
