Recipe for Successful Classes
Class Benefits - Since 1977 Cake art has been teaching Cake Decorating and Candy Making classes, we have the Recipe for Successful Classes! We teach Cake Classes as well as other “Specialty” classes that we have developed over the years. In our private classroom you will learn hands on from Cake Art Instructors that average over 10 years in teaching the art of cake decorating. Our class supply kits include all the basic supplies that you need for class, and if there are other items that you want to purchase we provide a Special 10% Discount on all purchases before and/or after your class session (excluding class tuition and class kits). A certificate of completion will be awarded at the last session to all students that have attended all sessions of the Cake Art Classes.
Registration - When considering any of the classes offered at Cake Art, please pre-register in a timely manner of at least seven days before a class is scheduled to begin. Cake Art requires a minimum of eight students for most of our classes. If the minimum is not met within five days of the scheduled start date of the class, it will be cancelled or postponed. Quite often we receive calls the day before a scheduled class, and the class is full, OR without the minimum number of students pre-registered, the class has been postponed or cancelled. If you had only called sooner!
If you want to pre-register for a class, sign up as soon as possible, at least seven days prior to the start date of the class. THERE IS NO RISK TO YOU. Should the class be postponed or cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, YOU WILL HAVE THE OPTION TO TRANSFER TO A DIFFERENT CLASS OR OBTAIN A FULL REFUND.
DON’T BE DISAPPOINTED – Pre-register seven days in advance of the start date of class!
How to register:
Register online with a major credit card
Register by fax with a major credit card
Register by mail with a major credit card, check, or money order
Register over the phone with a major credit card – Call 770-493-1305
Cancellations/Refunds – Full refunds given with seven days notice of cancellation by student or when Cake Art cancels a class due to insufficient enrollment. No cancellations or transfers will be allowed within seven days of class. Paid tuition guarantees a seat in class, therefore class fees are not refundable due to a student being a “no show” on the day of class. Failure to provide 7 days notice results in forfeit of the tuition portion of your fees.
Attendance – Evening classes meet one night per week (7:00 – 9:00 PM) or one day per week on Saturdays. Please arrive a few minutes early to allow the instructor to check attendance and begin the session promptly. Students will not be admitted to class after 15 minutes from the class start time, this will assure your obtaining the most from your class and prevent disruptions for your classmates. Only paid students are permitted in the classroom during scheduled classes – we are unable to accommodate guests or children. Smoking is not permitted at any time on any of the premises. Cake Art cannot provide for missed classes (we do not have make up classes). If you miss a class and wish to receive a certificate, do the homework assignment for the missed session(s) from the lesson plan book.
Severe Weather – If county schools are cancelled due to severe weather, your Cake Art class may also be cancelled. In the event of severe weather please call our store to verify if your class will be held. Cancelled classes due to severe weather will meet the next day or on a new date convenient to the majority of the students registered.
Class Prerequisites – It is important that you begin with a class that is well matched with your level of knowledge and experience. Each class is progressive so you will be learning new skills during each class and also use the skills that you have learned in previous classes. Our Cake Art 1 class will provide you with the basic foundation in cake decorating and is a prerequisite for most of our other classes. See the class descriptions for specific prerequisites.
You must attend the First Session off multi-lesson classes.
If you are new to Cake Decorating you should begin with Cake Art 1. Once you have completed Cake Art 1 then you can take Cake Art 2 and many of our specialty classes (typically held on Saturdays). Once you have completed Cake Art 1 and Cake Art 2 you can advance to either Cake Art 3 or Cake Art 4 (wedding cake class) these two classes don’t necessarily have to be taken in order.
If you want to learn fondant take our Beginning Fondant Class and then if you want to further your skills take the Advanced Fondant Class.
Candy Making Classes – We teach this class as two-hour demonstration on Saturdays. Candy making is fun and easy to learn and is a great compliment to your cake decorating skills. Bring a friend and if you want to get hands on experience take our Advanced Candy Class!
The art of cake decorating requires practice. You will learn skills and techniques during every class and you will have time to practice, but in order to get the most from the classes that you take, please spend time practicing the techniques at home. Bring any questions with you to the next class.
Class Supplies – Supply list for classes are given upon paid registration. There are also supplies that we recommend you bring from home. Typically these will be things like zip-lock bags; handi-wipes for clean up; note pad and pen, etc. In the more advanced classes we will ask you to bring supplies that you received in previous classes. It is important to bring these supplies so that you can benefit the most from your class.
Frequently Asked Questions:
1.) Question: I took classes years ago and I want to take more classes, where should I begin?
Answer: If you have been decorating cakes over the years and are “in practice” then you can pick up where you left off. In other words if you have already taken Cake 1 then you could begin with Cake 2. On the other hand if you have not done any decorating over the years then it would be best for you to begin with Cake 1. Cake Art Decorating classes are constantly being updated with new techniques and updated material. Be honest with yourself, it’s to your advantage!
2.) Question: I took classes at another store and now I want to take classes at Cake Art, do those classes that I took at another store count as prerequisites?
Answer: If the classes you took somewhere else were Cake Decorating Classes and you have taken them within the last year then yes those classes taken elsewhere can be considered your prerequisites as long as you are still “in practice” – see answer to question #1 above.
3.) Question: Can children take Cake Art classes?
Answer: Yes children 12 years or older can take any of our classes. An adult that is also taking classes MUST accompany children under the age of 16. Children 8 years or older can attend our Candy 123 class, but must be accompanied by an adult that is also taking the class.
4.) Question: Do you offer special classes for groups?
Answer: We have done classes for organizations, school field trips, retirement homes, businesses, etc. Some of the classes were done at our store and others where done at a location supplied by the group that was taking the class. Major grocery store chains have called upon us to teach classes for their bakery personnel! If you are interested in such an arrangement call our store and ask to speak with John or Teresa Parker or send an Email to: customerservice@cakeart.com let us know which class you are interested in, the number of students, desired date(s) and any other pertinent information.
5.) Question: What happens if I sign-up for a class and cannot attend?
Answer: If you let us know at least seven days prior to when the class begins we will transfer you to another class of your choice or give you a full refund whichever you prefer. If you cancel or request a transfer within seven days of the beginning of a class you forfeit your class tuition. Paid tuition guarantees a seat in class therefore class fees are not refundable due to a student being a “no show” on the day of class.
6.) Question: How does the 10% Student Discount work?
Answer: On the day of class you can come early or shop after class, when you check out let us know that you are attending a class and you will receive a 10% discount on your entire purchase (excluding class tuition and class kits).
